英語で好漢（90）

とうとう９０人目までやってきました。

あと１８人！

“四海兄弟”の旗を掲げ、世界へ乗り出した『絵巻水滸伝』も、今月ついに完結です。

しかし、きっと好漢たちの旅は続く……ということで、好漢に国境なしの信念のもと、今月はどんどん訳していきます。

『絵巻水滸伝』の好漢のあだ名の英訳は、パール・バックの訳を基礎に、絵巻オリジナルを加えています。

英国在住の作家で、語学とセンスに優れた入江敦彦先生には、多大なご協力をいただきました。

それでは、今週の好漢の登場です。

The Salamander「ザ・サラマンダー」

かっこいい……！

燃え盛る炎の中に棲み、火を操る精霊獣です。

その姿はトカゲのようなドラゴンのような……サンショウウオのような？

とにかく、「地短星　出林竜　鄒淵」なのです。

なにしろ、気の荒い男ですからね。

カッとなると、手がつけられないところが“サラマンダー”と呼ばれたのでしょう。

He was the ninetieth companion and a sergeant in the infantry.

He was the uncle of 'The Cyclops'.

His nick name was 'The Salamander'. He had an ambivalent personality.

On the one hand he was sensitive on the other very quick tempered.

Originally, with his nephew, he was head of the highway men on Mount Cloud-Climber.

He loved betting and had a big network to support his habit.

One day his friend 'Little Thor' offered to support his plan to rescue the 'Twin Headed Snake' and 'Twin Tailed Scorpion' from their cell. He agreed and they did well.

He and all the rescued outlaws joined the Liang-Shan Warriors.

He was trampled to death by an enemy's horse at the battle of Clear-Valley province during the Dark Guru War.
